Words to Confuse By (part 2): "Selfish"

In my article “Words to Confuse By” I illustrated how the mighty “they” (the ruling elite who used to control, well, everything) used language against “we the people.” Changing definitions, and/or usage, of words to their literal opposites was a technique used to confuse and create self-doubt in us rubes. Lowered self-esteem prevents people from questioning, and fighting back, and they love that.

Well, they're still at it. Notice how the CDC recently changed the definition of “vaccination.”

Old definition:

Vaccination: The act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease.

New definition:

Vaccination: The act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce protection from a specific disease.

If you read between the lines you’ll notice that now, according to the CDC, a vaccination is not actually a vaccination at all, and doesn’t prevent disease. Full stop.

I had a discussion with my brother the other day about another, very powerful and misused word: selfish. The word selfish might be the most important word ever manipulated by the cabal powers. If you can find a dictionary old enough you’ll see that the definition of selfish used to be some variant of “concern with self.” Now, check out the definition from an online dictionary:

Selfish: chiefly concerned with one's own interest, advantage, etc, esp to the total exclusion of the interests of others

It’s that last part, the moral judgment, that is the trick. This is where the cabal, and especially their henchmen in the church, got us. The old definition did not imply that you are a bad person for being concerned with yourself, for being selfish. The new definition says, in essence, that a selfish person doesn’t care what happens to someone else as long as they get what they want. Do you see the conundrum?

The cabal has created a world where we can be labeled as selfish (bad, uncaring, evil) simply for showing concern for ourselves. The regular folk have responded to this conundrum largely through compartmentalization. They’ll use the word negatively when scolding a child for taking his toy back from a kid with whom he doesn’t want to share. And then he’ll turn around and use it positively and say “I guess I need to be more selfish sometimes,” as you can commonly hear from the pro basketball player who might say: “I need to be more selfish and look for my shot more.”

My brother and I both concluded that in some ways it’s not that big a deal that the definition of the word selfish has been changed. After all, humans are clever and we can throw words around with bastardized definitions and still comprehend (notice I didn’t use the word “understand” – that’s an article for another time) what we’re trying to say. I used the word “crushed” in my last article to describe a job done quickly and superbly. We all know what we mean, so what’s the harm?

The word selfish is unique in its insidiousness. While we can use it amongst ourselves benignly, it’s also being used against us in very harmful ways that have wreaked untold devastation. Just think of all the priests (“don’t be selfish, put more money in the coffers”), and politicians (“don’t be selfish, vote for this tax hike”). Parents are probably the most guilty. Think of all the times as a child that you were coerced into doing something you didn’t want to do with the refrain: “don’t be selfish.”

The great Ayn Rand wrote timeless novels and many articles with selfishness as a theme, and I highly recommend all of them. She went as far as to say:

To redeem both man and morality, it is the concept of “selfishness” that one has to redeem.

I think the Great Awakening will bring the issue of words and their definitions to light, as it’s bringing so many truths to broader awareness. Perhaps one day we’ll see an age where words are used objectively, and without subterfuge. Let’s meditate on that.
